Colleges/Universities Listing

Once you have determined the type of degree program you wish to follow, it is time to start considering all the various school options available to you.  This page describes the major types of schools you might attend, and provides links to listing of each school type.

Community Colleges

As the name implies, Community Colleges are the local small colleges found in your local community, often a city or county college.  These make great places to start college if you are unsure of your degree major, and often offers vocational degrees, certificate programs, and continuing education programs.

State (Public) Colleges & Universities

Also implied in the name, these are the State Colleges and Universities that exist throughout the United States.  If you chose an in-state school, you will often receive lower tuition costs than those from out of state, since the state likes to subsidize its own population.

Private Colleges & Universities

Many of the nations top schools are Private Colleges and Universities.  These are not run by the state, are generally for-profit institutions, and are often much smaller in school population then their state college/university counterparts.  Tuition is generally the same, whether you live in the state where the school exists or not, since they are not subsidized by the government.

Online Colleges & Universities

Many of the state and private colleges offer online course, but the schools listed in the Online Colleges and Universities section are just that: schools whose primary school population is made up of online students.  Yes, many of these schools have a local campus, but their primary business is to offer online degree programs.  Often, state and private colleges also offer some of their curriculum online, but that is not the basis for which they exist.

Ivy League Schools

These are the top, prestigious name-brand schools that many of us have heard about, including such names as Harvard, Yale and Princeton.  They are called Ivy League Colleges and Universities because they are some of the original schools in America, and most have brink walls covered in the green ivy popular in the humid east.
