Overseas education and scholarships no longer remain mere dreams for ambitious students now. But what happens to you, when you need urgent medical attention in foreign shores? You will need the medical insurance for international students, of course!
This international student insurance policy conditionally defrays all medical expenditures that a student might incur while studying overseas. A student is eligible to financial benefits only if his condition doesn’t violate some overriding exclusionary clauses. A Pre-existing condition, is one which required medical attention in the look back period, which could vary from 6-24 months before the specified coverage begins. Pre-existing conditions are not excluded from coverage.
An injury or sickness will not qualify for medical insurance for international students cover if the related medical document is not provided to the company within 3 months of treatment. This clause judges the necessity and urgency of the treatment. The policy does not extend medical benefits for free treatments, or for treatments that incur exorbitant expenditures. A medical expenditure must be validated and prescribed by a physician to qualify for insurance cover.
Medical treatments that are of an unnecessary nature are not covered by the insurance for international student. This would immediately exclude any operations or treatments for cosmetic modifications. It also includes treatments undertaken for scientific study or in the pursuit of any experimental objective.
Injuries received due to conscious violation of legal and political rights are also not covered by medical insurance for international students. So, the insurance policy would not pay for any circumstance that is deemed willful injury. Injuries sustained in war, while pursuing criminal or terrorist activities are not offered financial insurance cover. The policy also does not extend its medical benefits if the injury/ illness are treated in the student’s native country.
The medical treatment would not receive financial benefits if it incorporates alternative/ experimental medication. This clause effectively disqualifies sensory therapeutics like aromatherapy and music therapy. A doctor’s certificate is also mandatory if you want to receive financial coverage for medical expenditure incurred. So do not self-treat yourself, or ask quacks to attend to you.
You are also not eligible to demand insurance cover for injuries sustained in pursuit of adventures sports. High risk sports automatically disqualify any insurance cover for medical expenses incurred. If such activities are likely, riders that cover sports and hazardous activities may be added on to some policies at the time of purchase.
Regular diagnostic check-ups do not qualify for insurance cover, unless in connection with a disease/ illness. Medical and substance abuse, and alcoholism treatment expenditures are also to be borne by the policyholder. These are some basic clauses that would disqualify any application for medical insurance for international students.
